A People-First Approach to Sales - Meet Alvaro, our UK Sales Manager
We sat down with Alvaro to learn more about his journey into sales, what drives his passion for the food and beverage industry, and what excites him about being part of Mighty. With over two decades of experience and a strong belief in building genuine relationships, Alvaro brings both expertise and energy to the team. From his approach to sales to life outside of work, here’s what he had to say.
Q1. Can you tell us about your background in sales?
Alvaro:
I’ve been working in sales for over 20 years, with the last 13 years focused specifically on food sales. Over that time, I’ve worked across different channels and built strong relationships within the industry. Sales has always been about people for me; understanding what they need and finding the right solutions.
Q2. What drew you to the food and beverage industry?
Alvaro:
I’m a massive foodie, so the idea of talking about food and drink for a living really appealed to me, although I do sometimes bring that passion home a bit too much! The industry is full of passionate people who genuinely want to give consumers the best possible experience. Being part of that journey and helping great products reach the right customers is incredibly rewarding.
Q3. What excites you most about joining Mighty?
Alvaro:
Mighty is a young brand with big ambition and clear aspirations. They have some fantastic wellness and plant-based products, and there’s a real openness to new ideas. I love that they trust their people to make good decisions and that they truly believe in giving consumers choice. That mindset really resonated with me.
Q4. How would you describe your approach to sales?
Alvaro:
I’d say I’m a bit old school in my approach. I believe in consistent activity, whether that’s face-to-face meetings, phone calls, emails or LinkedIn outreach, to build a strong pipeline. But more importantly, I believe in listening more than talking. Building genuine relationships is key. I want to be seen as a partner to the businesses we work with, not just a supplier.
Q5. What do you enjoy most about your role?
Alvaro:
I really enjoy meeting and talking to new people across a variety of roles. I value having the freedom to make decisions and the trust to try new ideas. There’s a real “no idea is a bad idea” mentality, which creates a positive and open working environment.
Q6. What do you get up to outside of work?
Alvaro:
I cook a lot at home from scratch - usually following a recipe, although I like to experiment now and then. Living by the sea, we try to get out on the paddleboard and to the beach as much as possible. I also enjoy running, walking the dog, and coaching my son’s Under-13 rugby team, which keeps me busy and on my toes!
